What Will I Learn?

This course will equip physical therapists with specialized knowledge and skills in addressing cardiovascular health concerns in athletes. Participants will explore the underlying anatomical and physiological systems impacted by elite training and then explore evidence-based strategies for preventing, identifying, and managing cardiovascular conditions in this population. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the cardiovascular system's response to training and detraining, recognizing risk factors. Signs, and symptoms of cardiovascular events in athletes, and implementing appropriate preventive measures. Participants will also delve into the assessment and management of rare cardiovascular events encountered in athletes, including arrhythmias, myopathies, sudden cardiac death, and inherited conditions. Case examples will be used to discuss the role of the physical therapist in treatment, training, and emergency response.
